Hey, I'm Sarah!
Sarah discovered a passion for training and behavior when she took her first dog home from a local shelter while attending Texas A&M University. Throughout college, she worked in a veterinary office. She graduated with a degree in Animal Science in 2007 and began teaching group puppy and obedience classes in 2010. In 2014 she began working with service dogs. For three years she worked with female inmates in the Texas prison system teaching service dog training and handling. Sarah is committed to continuing education and regularly attends seminars and conferences to improve her knowledge and skill. In September of 2017, she became a Certified Professional Dog Trainer, Knowledge Assessed. She shares her home with her seven-year-old Catahoula, her two-year-old Rhodesian Ridgeback, two cats, and her husband.
Training methods and philosophy

My training methods are evidence-based and founded in positive reinforcement. When training, I help you to arrange your dog's environment to prevent them from rehearsing dangerous or unwanted behavior while at the same time actively teaching the behavior that we do want. I never hurt, frighten, or intimidate your dog.

I focus heavily on welfare, both for your dog and for you. In addition to training specific skills, we will discuss physical health and well-being as well as how to meet your dog's needs for exercise, rest, and mental stimulation.

Issues that present as behavior problems often have an underlying medical component. I encourage a holistic approach to addressing behavior problems that includes collaboration with veterinary professionals.

I maintain certification through the Certification Council for Professional Dog Trainers, and I am committed to lifelong learning and continuing education. My methods are constantly evolving to reflect new information and research in the fields of animal behavior and dog training. If you have specific questions about the application of these principles to achieve your own training goals, please reach out to me to schedule a consultation.
